5 Essential Oils for the Cold Season

Essential oils to fight against viruses, flu and cold

1. The essential oil of lemon

The No. 1 asset of lemon essential oil (Citrus limonum) is its ability to clean the atmosphere. Anti-infectious and anti-viral, this essential oil will allow you to eradicate small viruses that enter your home.

It is very valuable to clean the air of your home, your office or your room.

Warning: the essential oil of lemon is sometimes irritating for the skin!

2. The essential oil of ravintsara

The essential oil of Ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora cineoliferum) is nicknamed “essential oil of winter”. Particularly effective in prevention, ravintsara is known to boost immune defenses: antiviral, antibacterial, expectorant, it is a mouthful of flu.

3. The essential oil of tea tree

Tea Tree essential oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) is particularly recommended for all ENT diseases, because of its antiseptic and anti-infectious properties. You can use it in the form of steam, massage on the neck (two drops) or in the bath.

It can also reduce redness due to cold weather and can be used in summer to repel insects.

Studies in Australia have shown a very positive action of the essential oil of tea tree to fight against the H1N1 virus.

Warning: Tea Tree essential oil is not suitable for pregnant women during the first trimester of pregnancy and children under 3 years!

4. The essential oil of marjoram with shells

The essential oil of marjoram with shells (Origanum majorana L.) helps fight against the viruses that affect the ENT sphere, but is also effective against viral or skin infections, such as shingles, chickenpox or psoriasis.

Anti fungal, it also helps fight against fungal infections. In cutaneous application, it is used pure or diluted in vegetable oil.

Warning: marjoram essential oil with shells is not suitable for pregnant women during the first trimester of pregnancy and children under 3 years!

Likewise, it should be avoided by people with asthma and epilepsy.

5. The essential oil of eucalyptus

The radioactive eucalyptus (Eucalyptus radiata) is an exceptional decongestant of the respiratory tract. Eucalyptus essential oil is particularly recommended in winter to counter various respiratory conditions and bronchitis.

It can, thus, be used by vapor diffusion, inhalation or tonic massage. Do you have a diffuser of essential oils? Spreading water vapor laden with eucalyptus essential oil in your room 10 minutes before going to bed will allow you to have a good night’s sleep, especially if you have a cold.
