10 Signs and Symptoms of Dehydration

After oxygen, water is the most important element for our life. It is indispensable to all our vital processes.

It is, therefore, imperative to recognize the signs sent by our body to tell us that it lacks water! Here are ten of them:

1. You have a dry mouth

A dry mouth is one of the first signs you body lacks water.

If you regularly have a dry mouth, you need to drink more!

2. You have a headache

Headache is also one of the first signs of dehydration.

Indeed, as soon as it is hot, dry and your body lacks water, headaches can occur.

Drink a large glass of cool water to reduce these headaches.

3. Your urine is dark

A dark yellow urine usually means that your body is running out of water.

The urine of a healthy body is clear and odorless.

If your urine is of a different color, please consult your doctor.

4. You are constipated

Constipation can occur when you do not drink enough water.

The water you drink is used in part to soften the stool and promote intestinal transit.

When you do not drink enough, your bowel runs out of water and the stools are hard. Hence a difficult evacuation.

If you are regularly constipated, try to drink more.

5. You are tired

When your body is not hydrated enough, it is faster tired.

So, if you still feel tired, you may simply run out of water.

Be sure to always keep a small bottle of water on you to recharge your batteries regularly!

6. You have cramps

Cramps are involuntary muscle contractions, sustained, temporary, more or less painful, usually benign.

They can occur at rest, including during sleep, or during a fairly intense physical effort and are accentuated by dehydration.

If you regularly suffer from cramps : Drink plenty of water, especially before and during exercise.

7. You feel dizzy

Vertigo is a sensation of rotation of our environment.

If you feel febrile and dizzy, it is often a sign that your body is running out of water.

In fact, insufficient hydration can cause vertigo and dizziness.

Drink a big glass of water!

8. You are irritable

A study conducted in 2009 at Tufts University on a team of men and women with equal physical conditions showed that during a sports activity, candidates who have not drunk water are quickly tired, aggressive, tense and depressed.

Indeed, the lack of water can generate a feeling of bad mood and irritability.

9. You have dry skin

If you have dry skin even while spreading moisturizer, this may be a sign of dehydration.

Healthy skin is well-hydrated skin.

Drink more, then consult a dermatologist if your skin is still dry.

10. The skinfold test

Pinching a piece of skin (on the back of the hand or on the arm for example) allows a quick diagnosis of the hydration level of the person tested.

Indeed, the persistence of a fold in the skin after pinching between two fingers reflects the lack of elasticity of the skin due to dehydration.
